A type of procession mask. The Japanese Bugaku Bodhisattva, which is thought to be based on the Bodhisattva from the Rin'yugaku music introduced in the Nara period or the Bodhisattva Ban song popular in the Tang dynasty, died out in the Middle Ages, so it is unclear whether it was masked, but the bodhisattva that appears in the procession probably used a mask. It appears in records from the 12th century, and remains exist in various places. It was used in processions during Buddhist ceremonies and in welcoming lectures (Raigoue), but it is difficult to tell the difference from the remains.
