A former town in Mitoyo County in western Kagawa Prefecture. It occupies the northern slope of the Sanuki Mountains and part of the Mitoyo Plain in the Saita River basin. Rice farming is thriving, and tobacco, bamboo shoots, mandarin oranges, and other crops are also cultivated. In the past, it was a key transportation point from the Iyo area to Kotohira Shrine, and now it is a bus transportation hub. 香川県西部,三豊郡の旧町。讃岐(さぬき)山脈北斜面と,財田(さいた)川流域の三豊平野の一部を占める。米作が盛んで,タバコ,タケノコ,ミカンなどの栽培も行われる。古くは伊予方面から金刀比羅(ことひら)宮への交通要地で,現在はバス交通の中心地。2006年1月,三豊郡高瀬町,三野町,豊中町,詫間町,仁尾町,財田町と合併し市制,三豊市となる。33.31km2。7808人(2003)。
