Kurokoman Pass - Kurokoman Pass

Japanese:
Kurokoman Pass - Kurokoman Pass
A medieval checkpoint located in Kurokoma, Yatsushiro County, Kai Province (Misaka Town, Fuefuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture). It is located at the northern foot of the pass on the Kamakura Kaido (also called Misaka Road or Kai Road), which connects the Kofu Basin and Suruga Province over Misaka Pass. The road has been an official road since ancient times, and there is a theory that Mizuichi Station, one of the ancient stations in Kai Province, is identified as Kurokoma. The establishment of Kurokoma Checkpoint dates to before 1565, when Takeda Shingen donated 10 kanmon of Kurokoma Checkpoint Coin as construction fees for the shrine platform of Fujisan Chugu Shrine. During the Sengoku period, as Fuji worship flourished, the Kamakura Kaido became bustling with pilgrims from all over the country climbing Fuji, and checkpoints were set up along the road to collect tolls from pilgrims, and Kurokoma Checkpoint is thought to have been one of them. In 1577, Shingen prayed at Fuji Omuro Sengen Shrine (present-day Fujikawaguchiko Town, Minamitsuru County, Yamanashi Prefecture) for a safe delivery of his daughter and promised to close Kurokoma Daiichi Barrier, but what happened after that is unknown.
