Noin Ula (English spelling)

Japanese: ノイン･ウラ（英語表記）Noin Ula

A Xiongnu tomb in the Noin-Ula Mountains, about 100 km north of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. It was investigated by the Soviet Kozlov Expedition in 1924 and 1925, and Mongolian scholars have since conducted investigations. Over 200 low-lying mounded tombs are known to exist, each with a wooden chamber and a wooden coffin. Grave goods include earthenware, woodenware, lacquerware, copper vessels, jade, filigree work, mirrors, as well as clothing (crowns, jackets, and pants), silk products (brocade, twill, ramrod, embroidery), horse equipment, and horse and carriage equipment. Of these, the Northern-style bronze vessels and woolen fabrics with animal-fighting motifs are original to the Xiongnu, while the silk fabrics and horse and carriage equipment were gifts from China.
