Korean-Japanese Reconciliation Movement

Japanese:
Korean-Japanese Reconciliation Movement
After the Japan-Korea Annexation, a reconciliation movement was carried out with the aim of making Koreans into Imperial subjects, i.e. Japanese (domestic) subjects, based on the Imperial Rescript on Annexation. In particular, after the March 1st Independence Movement of 1919, the goal of "assimilation" was developed, but the reconciliation between Korea and Japan was proposed under Governor-General Ugaki Kazunari (September 1931 - August 1936) in the wake of the Manchurian Incident. Later, as the Second Sino-Japanese War expanded, Governor-General Minami Jiro of Korea adopted the slogan "Japan and Korea as one" in order to mobilize Koreans, and the policy of making Koreans into Imperial subjects was strengthened, a typical example of which was the creation of surnames and changing of names in 1940. Against the backdrop of these policies in Korea, various reconciliation movements between Korea and Japan were developed in Japan in response to the sudden increase in the number of Koreans living in Japan.
