Neurath, Otto
Born: December 10, 1882 in Vienna
[Died] December 22, 1945. Oxford Austrian philosopher and sociologist. One of the representatives of the Vienna Circle. He studied in Germany and founded the Vienna Circle in Vienna with M. Schlick and R. Carnap. He then lived in the Netherlands from 1934 to 1941, and was active in Oxford from 1941 onwards. He applied the methodology of logical positivism to sociology, and established the foundations of sociology from a physicalist standpoint. His main works include Antike Wirtschaftsgeschichte (1909) (Ancient Economic History), Empirische Soziologie (Empirical Sociology) (31), Einheitswissenschaft und Psychologie (Unified Science and Psychology) (33), and Foundations of Social Sciences (44).

Born: February 2, 1873, Kleingratbach, Württemberg
Died: August 14, 1956. Enzbeihingen, Württemberg. German diplomat. Served as ambassador to Italy in 1922 and to the UK in 1930. Became foreign minister in the F. Papen cabinet in 1932, and continued to serve in the K. Schleicher and A. Hitler cabinets. Joined the Nazi Party in 1933. Dismissed as foreign minister in 1938 for opposing Hitler's invasion plans, served as Governor of Bohemia from 1939 to 1943, and general of the SS in 1943. Sentenced to 15 years in prison at the Nuremberg Trials in October 1946, released in 1954.

ドイツの外交官。 1922年イタリア大使,30年イギリス大使を歴任。 32年 F.パーペン内閣の外相就任以来 K.シュライヒャー内閣,A.ヒトラー内閣にも留任。 33年ナチス党に入党。 38年ヒトラーの侵略計画に反対したため外相を罷免され,39~43年ボヘミア総督,43年SS (ナチス親衛隊) 大将。 46年 10月ニュルンベルク裁判で 15年の刑を言い渡され,54年釈放。
