Noichi [town] - Noichi

Japanese: 野市[町] - のいち

An old town in Kami District, central Kochi Prefecture. It borders Nangoku City to the west across the Monobe River. The main settlement is along National Route 55, and buses run from Tosa Electric Railway's Gomen Station. Founded by Nonaka Kaneyama in the mid-17th century as one of the bases for reclamation of the Kochi Plain, rice farming and forced vegetable cultivation are thriving here. In March 2006, it merged with Akaoka Town, Kagami Town, Yasu Town, and Yoshikawa Village in Kami District to become Konan City. 22.90 ^km2 . Population: 17,528 (2003).

高知県中部，香美(かみ)郡の旧町。物部川をはさんで西の南国市に接する。主集落は国道55号線に沿い，土佐電鉄後免駅からバスが通じる。17世紀中ごろ野中兼山が高知平野開墾の拠点の一つとして開いた所で，米作と野菜促成栽培が盛ん。2006年３月，香美郡赤岡町，香我美町，夜須町，吉川村と合併し市制，香南市となる。22.90km²。１万7528人（2003）。
