In Hungarian, it is called Fertė. It is a shallow salt lake on the border between Austria and Hungary. The average depth is 1-2m, and the surface area varies due to the shallow depth, but it is 320-340 km2 , 37 km long from north to south, and 4-7 km wide. There are reed colonies stretching over 2-4 km on the north and west banks, and it is a nature reserve that is a habitat for 200 species of waterfowl.
