Year of death: June 17, 1611 (July 26, 1611) Year of birth: Tenbun 12 (1543) A military commander in the Azuchi-Momoyama and early Edo periods. The eldest son of Horio Yasuharu (Yoshihisa), a local lord in Niwa County, Owari. His childhood name was Niomaru, and he was commonly known as Kotaro or Mosuke. His name was sometimes called Yoshisada or Yoshinao, and he was also written as Yoshiharu. He first served Oda Nobunaga, but soon began serving Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and in 1573 he was given 1 million koku in Nagahama, Omi, and in 1578 he became the lord of Sawayama Castle in Omi with 40,000 koku. After the attack on Kyushu in 1579, he was appointed as a Junior Fifth Rank and Obito Sensei, and after the attack on Odawara in 1580, he moved to Hamamatsu Castle in Totomi (120,000 koku). He was highly trusted by Hideyoshi and was appointed one of the so-called Sanchuro (three middle elders), but after Hideyoshi's death in 1599 he was given 50,000 koku in Echizen Fuchu, and he handed over the family headship to his son Tadauji and retired to Echizen Fuchu. In July of the following year, on his way to his new territory, he was stabbed by Kagai Shigemochi (also known as Hidemochi) at Ikoifu (Chiryu City) in Mikawa, and was unable to participate in the Battle of Sekigahara in September. After the war, his son Tadauji was transferred to Izumo, and after Tadauji's early death, he assisted his grandson Tadaharu and built Matsue Castle. 没年:慶長16.6.17(1611.7.26) 生年:天文12(1543) 安土桃山・江戸前期の武将。尾張丹羽郡の土豪堀尾泰晴(吉久)の長男。幼名仁王丸,通称を小太郎,茂助といった。名は吉定,吉直といったときもあり,可晴とも書いた。はじめ織田信長に仕えたが,早くに豊臣秀吉に仕え,天正1(1573)年,近江長浜のうちで100万石を与えられ,同13年には近江佐和山城主4万石となった。同15年の九州攻めののち,従五位下・帯刀先生に任じられ,同18年の小田原攻め後,遠江浜松城(12万石)に移った。秀吉の信任厚く,いわゆる三中老のひとりに任じられたが,秀吉死後の慶長4(1599)年,越前府中で5万石を与えられたとき家督を子忠氏に譲り,越前府中に隠居することになった。翌5年7月に新領地へ赴く途中,三河の池鯉鮒(知立市)で加賀井重望(秀望とも)に切られ傷つき,9月の関ケ原の戦には参戦できなかった。戦後,子忠氏が出雲に転封されたのに従い,忠氏早世後は孫忠晴を補佐し,松江城を築いている。 (小和田哲男) 出典 朝日日本歴史人物事典:(株)朝日新聞出版朝日日本歴史人物事典について 情報 |
