A bird of the genus Phasianidae in the order Phasianidae. There is one species in one genus. The maximum body length of the male is as much as 2m, but this is because the two central tail feathers are long and band-like, reaching 1.4m. The secondary feathers on the wings are also long, at 1m, and the primary feathers are 50cm long. These are specialized ornamental feathers used for display during courtship behavior, at the expense of flying ability. The feathers are brown with small beige spots and black and beige linear spots, and the long, wide outer secondary feathers have a row of yellowish-brown circular eye spots surrounded by black rings. The long tail feathers are gray and chestnut with small white spots.
