Negoro

Japanese: 根来 - ねごろ

A district of Iwade City in northern Wakayama Prefecture. Formerly the village of Negoro. It was the location of Negoro-ji Temple, the head temple of the Shingon sect. Until it was burned down by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the temple had a large estate and the entire temple area was called Negoro. It occupies the top of the alluvial fan of the Negoro River (a tributary of the Kinokawa River) at the southern foot of the Izumi Mountains. Near Negoro-ji Temple is the Civic Folklore Museum. The Negoro Highway leads to Kazefuki Pass in the north.

和歌山県北部、岩出(いわで)市の一地区。旧根来村。新義真言(しんぎしんごん)宗総本山根来寺の所在地で、豊臣(とよとみ)秀吉に焼かれるまでは広い寺領を有し、寺域全部を根来と称した。和泉(いずみ)山脈南麓(ろく)の根来川（紀ノ川支流）扇状地扇頂部を占める。根来寺の近くに市民俗資料館がある。根来街道が北部の風吹(かぜふき)峠へと通じている。
