Nunobikimaru Incident

Japanese: 布引丸事件 - ぬのびきまるじけん

An incident in July 1899 in which an attempt was made to send weapons, ammunition and Japanese patriots from Japan to the Philippines to support the Philippine Revolution, but failed. Since June 1898, the Philippine revolutionary government had been sending representatives including M. Ponce and F. Lichauco to Japan to procure weapons and ammunition and to request support from the Japanese government. Through Sun Yat-sen, who was in exile in Japan, Ponce learned of a group of Japanese men including Miyazaki Toten and Inukai Tsuyoshi who were interested in the liberation of Asia, and with their cooperation, he succeeded in obtaining weapons and ammunition, including worn-out Murata rifles, from the Army General Staff.

1899年7月，フィリピン革命を支援するため武器，弾薬および日本人志士を日本からフィリピンへ送ろうとして失敗した事件。フィリピン革命政府は1898年6月以来，M.ポンセ，F.リチャウコらの代表を日本に送って武器，弾薬の調達と日本政府の支援を求める工作を行った。ポンセは日本亡命中の孫文を介して宮崎滔天，犬養毅らアジア解放に関心を抱く日本人グループを知り，彼らの協力で陸軍参謀本部から使い古された村田銃などの武器および弾薬を払い下げてもらうことに成功した。
