Ambiorix (English spelling)

Japanese: アンビオリクス（英語表記）Ambiorix

King of the Eburones in Gaul (living in what is now the eastern tip of Belgium) in the middle of the 1st century BC. Dates of birth and death unknown. Appears in Caesar's "Commentaries on the Gallic Wars" as Caesar's greatest enemy. At first he assisted Caesar, but rebelled in 54 BC. He defeated and killed two of Caesar's generals, inciting the anti-Roman movement among the Gallic people, and further harassed the Roman army with guerilla tactics. After Caesar thoroughly annihilated his country, Ambiorix fled to Germania and disappeared from history. [Yoshimura Tadanori]
