Aiolis - Aiolis (English spelling)

An area in northwestern Asia Minor where Aeolian Greeks migrated in ancient times. Currently part of Turkey. It included Smyrna in the south, but after Smyrna became part of Ionia, it included the area from the Hermos River to Cebrene in the north. Around the 7th century BC, it extended to the Trouas region. In the narrowest sense, it refers to the area opposite the Greek island of Samos, and the area of ​​12 city-states including Kime. The center of ritual for the 12 city-states was the Temple of Apollo at Grineion. Herodotus reports that the land was fertile.

古代にアイオリス方言のギリシア人が移住した小アジア北西部の地域。現在はトルコ領。南はスミルナを含んだが、スミルナがイオニア領となってからは、ヘルモス川から北はケブレネーまでの地域を含んだ。紀元前7世紀ごろにはトロアス地方にまで広がった。狭義にはギリシアのサモス島の対岸地域、キメーなどの12ポリス（都市国家）の領域をさす。12ポリスの祭祀(さいし)の中心はグリネイオンのアポロン神殿であった。ヘロドトスは、この地は肥沃(ひよく)だと伝えている。
