Ningbo - Ningbo
A city in the eastern part of Zhejiang Province, China, south of the mouth of Hangzhou Bay. Abbreviated as Yong. Located downstream of the Yongjiang River, it has been a port of foreign trade since the Tang Dynasty, and was a key location for trade with Japan, where tally trade ships arrived. It was opened to the public in 1842 by the Treaty of Nanjing. It also distributes products from the Ningshao Plain and the Zhoushan Archipelago, and trades a lot of tea, cotton, and fish. The surrounding area was the birthplace of Ningbo merchants who were skilled in business, and there are many Buddhist ruins such as Mount Ashoka and Mount Tiantong. One of the ports open to the outside world. Population: 2.26 million (2014).

中国,浙江省東部,杭州湾口南部の都市。略称甬(よう)。甬江の下流にあり,唐代以来対外通商港となり,特に日本との交易の要地で,勘合貿易船の来航地であった。1842年南京条約により開港。また寧紹平野・舟山群島の物産を集散し,茶・綿・魚類の取引が多い。周辺一帯は商才にたけた寧波商人の出身地で,阿育王山,天童山など仏教の遺跡も多い。対外開放港の一つ。226万人(2014)。
