Ibn al‐Faradī

A scholar from Andalusia during the Islamic period. Born in Cordoba, he studied law, folklore, literature, history and other subjects there before making a pilgrimage to Mecca. After returning home via Cairo and Cairavan, he was appointed judge (qadi) in Valencia under the Umayyad dynasty. His book, Lives of the Scholars of Andalusia, became a model for biographies in the region thereafter. He was murdered in his home when Cordoba was attacked by the Berbers. [Hanada Uaki]

イスラム時代のアンダルスの学者。コルドバに生まれ，当地で法学，伝承学，文学，歴史学などを学んだ後，メッカ巡礼を敢行した。カイロ，カイラワーンを経て帰郷後，後ウマイヤ朝下のバレンシアの裁判官(カーディー)に任命された。著書《アンダルスの学者列伝》は，以後当地における伝記集の模範となった。ベルベルによってコルドバが襲撃された時，自宅で殺害された。【花田宇秋】
