962‐1013 A scholar from Andalusia during the Islamic period. Born in Cordoba, he studied law, folklore, literature, history and other subjects there before making a pilgrimage to Mecca. After returning home via Cairo and Cairavan, he was appointed judge (qadi) in Valencia under the Umayyad dynasty. His book, Lives of the Scholars of Andalusia, became a model for biographies in the region thereafter. He was murdered in his home when Cordoba was attacked by the Berbers.
