Born: March 12, 1894 in Tokyo [Died] August 1, 1978. A leader in the Tokyo business world. After graduating from the University of Tokyo, he joined the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce, and during the war he became Deputy Director-General of the Planning Board. In 1941, he became Chairman of the Coal Control Association. He was banned from holding public office due to his activities in the wartime controlled economy. When the ban was lifted in 1951, he became Vice Chairman of the Japan Business Federation, and since then he has devoted himself to looking after the business world. In 1968, he became Chairman of the Japan Business Federation after the retirement of Chairman Ishizaka Taizo, whom he had abidded for many years. In 1974, he handed the position over to Doko Toshio, and became Honorary Chairman. During this time, in 1970, he assisted the Sato Cabinet in Japan-US textile negotiations. He also served as Chairman of a roundtable on prices and pollution issues, and continued to be active as a representative face of the business world, closely connected to the conservative government.
