Arab genealogist and historian. A resident of Kufa, he was said to have had such an incredible memory that he memorized the Quran in three days. He was well versed in the history of the Arab world during the Jahiliyya and Islamic periods, and wrote around 120 works, although only a portion of his great work, The Complete Genealogy, remains. Three other works remain to this day: The Book of Idols, which describes the state of idol worship in pre-Islamic Arabia, and The Book of the Pedigrees of Fast Horses in the Jahiliyya and Islamic Periods.
