Kanei

Japanese:
Kanei

Date of birth and death unknown. A man of the Later Han Dynasty in China, he was a subordinate of Ban Chao, the protector of the Western Regions. He left for Daqin (the Roman Empire and other theories exist) in 97 by order of Ban Chao. At that time, Ban Chao's conquest of the Western Regions was nearing completion, so it is believed that he aimed to gain control of the situation further west. According to the Western Regions section of the Book of the Later Han, Gan Ying was the first Chinese person to reach Tiozhi (Syria, Fars) through Anxi (Parthia), but turned back before the great sea (the Mediterranean Sea or the Persian Gulf). There are few detailed records about Gan Ying, but compared to the Records of the Grand Historian and the Book of the Han, there is no doubt that one of the reasons for the abundance of information about the Pamirs and west from the Book of the Later Han onwards is the dispatch of envoys by Gan Ying.
