Design Ordinance - Design Ordinance

...Although there was some turmoil during the French Revolution, the Design Law was enacted after the Revolution, and this law evolved into the Design Law we know today. The protection of designs in Japan began with the Design Ordinance of 1888, and has since undergone several revisions to become the current law. Thus, although the history of designs is quite old, it was only after mass production led to the distribution of large quantities of goods and the diversification of consumer tastes regarding designs that designs became important in the modern sense.
