A Japanese financial institution whose main purpose is to facilitate financing for small and medium-sized enterprises. It is abbreviated as Shoko Chukin Bank. It was established as a cooperative financial institution under the Shoko Chukin Bank Act in 1936. In October 2008, it became a special company under the Shoko Chukin Bank Act. Its shareholders are the government, small and medium-sized enterprise associations and their members. Its main activities include lending to affiliated associations and their members, discounting bills, conducting domestic foreign exchange operations, and accepting deposits, and it issues commercial bonds as a source of funds. Its business operations and the appointment and dismissal of directors are supervised by the government. 主として中小企業金融の円滑化をはかることを目的とする日本の金融機関。商工中金と略称される。1936年商工組合中央金庫法に基づいて,協同組織金融機関として設立。2008年10月,株式会社商工組合中央金庫法に基づき特殊会社となった。株主は,政府,中小企業団体およびその構成員。おもに所属団体またはその構成員に対する貸し付け,手形割引,内国為替業務および預金受け入れなどを行なうほか,資金源として商工債券を発行する。業務運営および役員の任免などに関しては,政府の監督を受ける。
