Ishihimi fishing method

...Including deshio and irishio, a state where there is no tide is called toromi, and a place where the tides meet and create waves is called shiozai. Along with hiocchi or sokochi for low tide and tatae for high tide, many fishing methods also use the tides, such as tateboshi nets and ishihimi fishing. Of these, ishihimi fishing is a primitive fishing method that uses only the tides without any device to forcibly guide fish. Horseshoe-shaped or square natural stones are piled on the shoreline, and fish that come in with the tide at high tide are scooped up after the tide comes out from between the stones at low tide. This fishing method has been distributed worldwide since ancient times, and was practiced in Japan until recently in Okinawa and Kyushu.
