Around 1674-1745 Ottoman official and diplomat. Born in Cluj, Transylvania, as the son of a Christian, he was educated as a priest, but converted to Islam and served the Ottoman Empire, mainly in the field of diplomacy. There are various theories about the circumstances of his conversion. He is known as the person who introduced movable type printing to the Ottoman Empire. Since 1493, non-Muslim subjects in the Ottoman Empire had opened movable type printing shops in their own languages, but there was strong opposition from religious circles to movable type printing in Arabic characters, and there were no printing shops.
