Influenced by the Kanze school of Noh, she also incorporated a wider range of elements from Bunraku puppet theater and Kabuki, and added a variety of works other than jiuta (Chinese folk songs). She also taught Gion Shinchi dance, and choreographed the Miyako Odori dance for the entertainment at the 1872 (Meiji 5) exhibition, solidifying her ties with Gion. In 1955 (Showa 30), she was recognized as a holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure). In 1975, she was awarded the Person of Cultural Merit, and in 1990 (Heisei 2), she was awarded the Order of Culture. In May 2000 (Heisei 12), she handed over the reins of the school to her granddaughter, Michiko Inoue, and took the name Aiko Inoue.
