Two hundred and ten days - Nihyakutooka

Japanese:
Two hundred and ten days - Nihyakutooka

One of the miscellaneous festivals in the calendar. It is the 210th day counting from the beginning of spring. It corresponds to around September 1st in the solar calendar. Since ancient times, it has been recorded in the calendar as an unlucky day for farmers, as it is the time when typhoons strike and rice flowers bloom. It is said that Shibukawa Harumi heard about this from a fisherman and started recording it in the calendar in 1686 (Jokyo 3), but it was recorded in the Ise calendar in 1656 (Meireki 2) before that. The 220th day counting from the beginning of spring is called nihyakuhatsuka (220th day), but it is not recorded in the calendar.

Farmers are careful of typhoons, but statistically this day is not a special day when typhoons are likely to strike. It should be noted that in recent years, due to climate change, typhoons that affect the mainland tend to occur more frequently before the 210th day. An even older record of the 210th day is in the "Zenryu-shugun no Maki" written by Yasuda Mohei no Jyo Shigetsugu in 1634 (Kan'ei 11), which states, "It is a wind called Nobi. This blows within seven days around the 210th day." This record is thought to have been made under the influence of Japanese pirates and other such forces, and is thought to have been exactly double the 105 days of unlucky wind and rain that were said to exist in China. In haiku poetry, it is a seasonal word for autumn.
