A photographic term. Meaning "fair and candid photographs," it is another name for snapshots. It also means secretly taken or shot secretly. The term was first used by German photographer E. Salomon to describe the pictures he took of famous people in the League of Nations conference hall and courtrooms, showing their natural appearances and faces, using a newly invented Ermanox camera for indoor quick photography. In Europe and the United States, the term candid is more commonly used than snap.
