Trade negotiations regarding the restrictions on imports to Japan imposed by the Dutch East Indies (Dutch East Indies) government. In the 1930s, Japan's trade with the Dutch East Indies expanded rapidly, with exports increasing sharply in particular, and by 1934 Japan accounted for more than 30% of the Dutch East Indies' total imports. In order to adjust this one-sided trade (exports to Japan in 1934 accounted for 4% of the total), the Dutch East Indies government began imposing import restrictions on Japan. The first round of negotiations between the two governments regarding these restrictions was held in Batavia (now Jakarta) in June 1934, and after a temporary hiatus, the Ishizawa-Harth Agreement was concluded in 1937.
