…Indian philosopher. He is believed to have lived between 150 and 50 BCE. He was also known by the names Kanabju, Kanavaksha (meaning "eater of grain" (kaṇa)), and Uruka (meaning "owl"). He is said to have been the founder of the Vaisheshika school, which has a very strict terminology system, and to have compiled the fundamental text of this school, the Vaiṣeshika-sūtra (the extant version was written around 100-200 CE). …
