Tobacco products made from leaf tobacco are classified into five categories: cigarettes, cigars, shredded tobacco, chewing tobacco, and snuff. Since tobacco was introduced to Europe at the end of the 15th century, cigars and shredded tobacco became popular in Europe, while snuff became popular among upper class society. However, since cigarette manufacturing was industrialized in the second half of the 19th century, the demand for cigarettes has been growing year by year, and currently, more than 80% of the world's leaf tobacco production is consumed as cigarettes.
