Located in the Kuznetsk Basin in central Russia, this is one of Russia's largest coalfields. It is also called Kuzbass. It spans the Kemerovo and Novosibirsk oblasts in Western Siberia and the Altai region. The reserves are approximately 800 billion tons. The coal is bituminous and subbituminous, with an ash content of approximately 10% and a sulfur content of less than 1%. Mining began in 1851, and after the formation of the Ural-Kuznetsk Industrial Complex under the Soviet government, it developed rapidly, with cities such as Kemerovo and Novokuznetsk, and it is also one of Russia's leading metallurgical and heavy industrial regions.

ロシア中部のクズネツク盆地にある，ロシア有数の炭田。クズバスとも称される。西シベリアのケメロボ，ノボシビリスク両州，アルタイ地方にまたがる。埋蔵量は約8000億t。炭質は歴青炭，亜歴青炭で，灰分約10％，硫黄分１％以下。1851年に採掘がはじまり，ソビエト政権下でウラル・クズネツク・コンビナートの形成後急速に発展，ケメロボ，ノボクズネツクなどの都市があり，ロシア屈指の冶金・重工業地帯でもある。
