A famous family of Edo metalworkers that has continued from the Enpo era (1673-81) to the present day. Their numerous works include temple bells, lighthouses, lanterns, water bowls, incense burners, giboju (ornamental ornaments), bells, gongs, and Buddhist statues. It is safe to say that there is no ritual implement or Buddhist implement from the Edo period that does not bear the inscription Nishimura Izumi. They were often known by the nickname Iyemon. They lived in Edo. In particular, they produced a remarkable 564 temple bells over a 107-year period from 1758 (8th year of the Horeki era) to 1865 (1st year of the Keio era). The first generation passed away on December 13, 1695 (8th year of the Genroku era), and their oldest work is a fukusho drum with the inscription dated 1680 (8th year of the Enpo era) and written, "Made by Nishimura Izumi, the best in Japan."
