Founder and principal of Bunka Gakuin. Born in Shingu, Wakayama Prefecture. In 1921 (Taisho 10), he established Bunka Gakuin to educate his own children, and with the cooperation of Yosano Akiko and Ishii Hakutei, he provided a liberal education through the arts. In 1943 (Showa 18), he was arrested on suspicion of lèse majesté, and Bunka Gakuin was forced to close (it reopened after the war). His major works include "Living Life as Art" (1922) and "There is Benefit to Me" (1960).
