Elton John - Elton John

British pop singer, pianist, and songwriter. Born in Pinner, Middlesex, England. Her father is a trumpet player. She started learning piano at the age of four and performed in concerts at the age of twelve. She attended the Royal Academy of Music in London from 1958. In 1961, she joined the rhythm and blues group Bluesology. She began writing songs for the group in 1965. In 1967, she teamed up with lyricist Bernie Taupin (born in 1950). She recorded her first song as a singer in 1968. From the fall of 1970 to 1971, her song "Your Song" became a worldwide hit and she became a star. She appeared in the 1975 film "Tommy". She wrote the theme song for the 1994 Disney film "The Lion King" with lyricist Tim Rice, which was well received. In September 1997, she sang "Candle in the Wind," a song from 1974, with new lyrics at the funeral of Princess Diana (who died in an accident in Paris in August), and the CD sales for that song were a new record, exceeding 30 million copies. He was awarded a knighthood in 1998. In 1995 he performed in Japan for the first time in 21 years, and in 1998 he performed a joint concert with Billy Joel.

イギリスのポピュラー歌手、ピアノ奏者、ソングライター。イングランドのミドルセックス州ピナー生まれ。父はトランペット奏者。4歳からピアノを学び、12歳でコンサートに出演。1958年からロンドンの王立音楽アカデミーに通う。61年リズム・アンド・ブルースのグループであるブルーソロジーに参加。65年からグループのために歌曲をつくる。67年に作詞家バーニー・トーピン（1950年生まれ）と組む。68年に歌手として初録音。70年秋から71年にかけて『僕の歌は君の歌』が世界的にヒットしてスターになった。75年の映画『トミー』に出演。94年のディズニー映画『ライオン・キング』の主題歌を作詞家ティム・ライスとともに書いて好評。97年9月にダイアナ元皇太子妃（8月にパリで事故死）の葬儀で74年作品『キャンドル・イン・ザ・ウィンド』を新歌詞で歌い、そのCD売上げは3000万枚以上の新記録。98年ナイト爵位を授与される。95年21年ぶりに来日公演、98年にはビリー・ジョエルと来日ジョイント・コンサートを行った。
