A district in the western part of Nara City. Located in the Ukyo area of Heijo-kyo, this area refers to the Nishinokyo Hills region, which is made of alluvial deposits at an altitude of about 100m and spreads along the west bank of the Akishino River. In a more strict sense, it refers to Nishinokyo-cho, Nara City, where Yakushi-ji Temple is located. It retains the atmosphere of an ancient capital and is full of charm, but in recent years it has become increasingly residential. The ruins of Koriyama Castle are located at the southern end of the hills. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
