A town in Oki District, Shimane Prefecture, occupying the entire area of Nishinoshima Island in the Oki Islands. The main settlements are Urago and Beppu, which are served by boat from Sakaiminato City and Mihonoseki Town (now Matsue City). Fishing is the main activity, but pasture farming is also practiced. 島根県隠岐(おき)郡，隠岐諸島の西ノ島全域を占める町。主集落は境港市，美保関(みほのせき)町（現・松江市）から船便がある浦郷(うらごう)と別府。漁業を主とし，放牧も行われる。海運業者の信仰が厚い焼火(たくひ)神社，国賀(くにが)海岸などがある。55.96km2。3136人（2010）。
