A town in Niikappu County in south-central Hokkaido. The Hidaka Main Line runs through the town. The Niikappu River, which originates in the Hidaka Mountains, flows through the center of the town. The town is home to the Hidaka Light Horse Breeding Corporation, which breeds racehorses. Rice and field crops are cultivated, and dairy and beef cattle are also raised. Area: 585.81 km2 .
