Kaburaya

Japanese:
Kaburaya

A type of arrow, with a hollow spherical piece of wood or deer antler at the end of the arrow shaft, and a kabura with several holes drilled in the front. When it flies, the holes catch the wind and emit a sharp sound. It is also called a turnip arrow because its shape resembles a turnip, and it is also written as narikabura, nariya, narikaburaya, nariya, or koshi because it emits a sound. The arrow is made by making the arrow bundle slightly longer than normal, the nock a nuta nock, the feathers four-sided (four feathers), and the karimata (cross-legged part) attached to the warine so that it runs at a right angle to the feathers at the end of the kabura. For Kasagake (Hakagake) and Inuoumono (Inuoumono), a type of Kabura arrow without an arrowhead was used, called Hikime (Hikime). Just as the first arrow was a signal to start a battle, Kabura arrows were apparently used as signals by horse-riding peoples in northern Asia in ancient times. In Japan, these arrows remain in artifacts excavated from ancient tombs and in the Shosoin Treasures, and they are often used in depictions of the Genpei War.
