Planing boat

Japanese: 滑走艇 - かっそうてい
Planing boat

…The motorboats used in the race are wooden boats 3m long, 130cm wide, and weighing 70kg, fitted with domestically produced outboard engines, and can reach a speed of about 80km per hour. There are two types of boats: hydroplanes, which have a flat, stepped bottom, and runabouts, which do not. In a typical race, six motorboats compete for finishing position by completing three laps (1,800m) between two buoys set up 300m apart in a straight line.
