Annam Protectorate - Annam Protectorate

Annan was one of the six protectorates established by the Tang Dynasty in China to govern border tribes. It was established in 679 in what is now northern Vietnam and the northern half of central Vietnam. It was divided into seven directly-ruled provinces and an autonomous region called Kiev Province, and from around the end of the 8th century, its prefectural government was established in Hanoi. With the decline of the Tang Dynasty in the 9th century, the protectorate came to an end and an independent kingdom was born, but the name Annan continued to be used for a long time afterwards.

中国、唐朝が辺境異民族の統治のために置いた六都護府の一つ。現在の北部ベトナムから中部ベトナム北半の地に、679年から置かれた。直轄支配地である7州と、自治区である羈縻(きび)州に分かれ、8世紀末ごろからはハノイに府治が置かれた。9世紀、唐朝の衰退とともに、都護府政治は終わり、独立王国が生まれたが、アンナンの呼称はその後も長く用いられた。
