A city in the northeastern part of Tokushima Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1947. It includes the islands of Shimadajima, Takashima, and Ogeshima, which face the Naruto Strait. The central town of Muya developed as a port town and the center of salt production. In addition to pharmaceutical companies that were established in connection with the salt industry from the mid-Meiji period onwards, there are also chemical and salt factories located here, and Naruto wakame seaweed is a specialty product. Radish and lotus root cultivation is also thriving. It is the base for observing the tide at Naruto. The Takatoku Line and Naruto Line run through the city, and the Onaruto Bridge linking it to Awaji Island was completed in 1985, and the Kobe-Naruto Route of the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge was completed in 1998. 135.66 km2 .
