Japanese: 成東[町] - なるとう

Facing the Pacific Ocean in Sanbu District, Chiba Prefecture, this old town occupies the central part of the Kujukuri Plain. The city center is where the Sobu Main Line and the Togane Line junction. Rice farming is the mainstay of agriculture, but field crops are also grown. Fishing has changed from catching to raising fish. There is a carnivorous plant production area (a natural monument). In March 2006, it merged with Sanbu Town, Matsuo Town, and Hasunuma Village in Sanbu District to become Sanbu City. Area: 47.02 ^km2 . Population: 24,986 (2003).

千葉県山武(さんぶ)郡，太平洋に面し九十九里平野中部を占める旧町。中心市街は総武本線と東金(とうがね)線の分岐点。農業は稲作を中心とし，畑作も行う。漁業は，獲る漁業から育てる漁業へと変化している。食虫植物産地（天然記念物）がある。2006年３月，山武郡山武町，松尾町，蓮沼村と合併し市制，山武市となる。47.02km²。２万4986人（2003）。
