Hyoid bone

…the upper surface of the body has a dental alveolus, which receives the teeth. The hyoid bone (os hyoideum [Latin]) is a small U-shaped bone located just above the thyroid cartilage of the larynx. It is located shallow under the skin of the anterior neck and can be felt with the fingers.
