Shozo Namiki

Shozo Namiki
A mid-Edo period Kabuki playwright. First generation. Born in Osaka. A disciple of Namiki Sosuke. He started out writing Joruri, but after his master's death he switched to Kabuki and became a leading figure in the Osaka theater world. His ingenuity in stage mechanisms, such as the invention of the revolving stage and the Gandou-gaeshi technique, had a major impact on the later world of theater. His works include "Thirty Koku Ganshi" and "Yadomudan Shichijigure Kasa." From Kyoho 15 to An'ei 2 ( 1730-73 ).
