A Kabuki prop maker. There are four generations of him. [Toshiaki Matsui] First World(1829-1906) was born into a farming family in Saitama. He went to Edo and worked at the Ichimura Theater. He started out in the business of renting fans to actors, and then began collecting and renting props in Saruwaka-cho. After the Meiji Restoration, he became independent as a prop dealer, and took advantage of the popularity of realistic theater in the mid-Meiji period to purchase many new props and establish a position in the industry. [Toshiaki Matsui] II(1865-1921) Son of the founder. He excelled in gimmicks and made efforts to improve props for stage effects. He excelled in making horses and armor, and invented a method of using loofahs. [Toshiaki Matsui] III(1891-1952) The eldest son of the second generation. He was skilled in the art of Yusoku and made armor that imitated the real thing. He expanded his business to include theatrical props other than Kabuki, and founded Fujinami Props Co., Ltd. [Toshiaki Matsui] IV(1926-75) The eldest son of the third generation. His real name was Fujinami Mitsuo. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tokyo. He inherited his father's policy and contributed to the overseas performance of Japanese performing arts, including Kabuki. His edited works include "Props Fujinami Yohei" and "Theater Props - Creativity and Tradition," and his posthumous collection of manuscripts includes "Props Revisited."
