An old French 20 franc gold coin that is a target for small-scale investment. The French have had a strong preference for gold since ancient times, and gold coins in particular are beloved. Because there are so many of them, old gold coins with little rarity value have been traded at a price not much different from their bullion value. Some say that the Napoleon gold coin refers to the gold coin of Napoleon I, but today it is used as a general term for 20 franc gold coins that are the target of investment, mainly those with the portrait of Napoleon III that were issued between 1852 and 1870.
