Nahdḷatul Ulama

Japanese: ナフダトゥル･ウラマ（英語表記）Nahdḷatul Ulama

The main political party and social organization representing Indonesia's Islam. It was founded in 1926 by a group of leaders of Islamic schools (pesantren) scattered in small and medium-sized cities and rural areas of East Java. It called itself "the awakening of the ulama (religious teachers)" (Nahdlatul Ulama) with the aim of reviving orthodox Javanese Islam to counter modern Islam. During the Japanese military administration, it formed the Masyumi Party with other Islamic groups, but became independent after 1952 and was the leading Islamic party throughout the Sukarno era.

インドネシアのイスラムを代表する主要な政党，社会団体。1926年に，東ジャワの中小都市および農村部に散在するイスラム塾(プサントレン)の主宰者集団を中核として結成された。近代派イスラムに対抗するジャワの正統的イスラムの復興を目指し，〈ウラマー(宗教教師)の覚醒〉(ナフダトゥル･ウラマ)を名のった。日本軍政中に他のイスラム団体とともにマシュミ党を結成したが，52年以降は独立し，スカルノ時代を通じてイスラム派を代表する政党であった。
