Uncle Kaneshige

…A Korean civil servant and writer of the Yi Dynasty. His pen name was Jungsook and his pen name was Seopo. His father was Kim Ik-gyeom, who died in the Byeongja Invasion (1636) on Ganghwa Island, and his mother, Yun Do-su, was the granddaughter of Yun Do-su, a successive prime minister. After her husband died, her mother provided for the education of her two children (Mangi and Manjung) herself, and Manjung, who never knew his father, is said to have respected and been filial to his mother throughout his life. He held the ranks of Minister of Artisans and Grand Commissioner, but as a Westerner in the party strife, his official fortunes were affected by the rise and fall of Westerners. At the age of 47, when the king (Sukjong) favored a court lady named Jang, Manjung disapproved of her during a royal ceremony, which angered the king and led to him being exiled to Seoncheon. …
