Another important point in talking about Renaissance theater is the large-scale festivals held at the royal courts to demonstrate the power of the rulers. In Italy, festival processions called the Trionfo were held in Florence in 1477 and Milan in 1490, for example, and featured magnificent costumes of gods, celestial mechanisms, imaginary animals, and even real animals.
