Naniwa Story - Naniwa Monogatari

Japanese: 難波物語 - なにわものがたり

A record of the reputation of prostitutes. Author unknown. Published in 1655 (Meireki 1). One volume. A record of the reputation of Shimabara, Kyoto. After the preface, it says "The Tale of Naniwa, with Criticism," and the format is such that the criticism is added after the main text is presented. It begins with a person feeling like going to a brothel after seeing the Kyogen performance of a courtesan at Shijo-gawara, and goes on to discuss the pros and cons of entertainment. It also records the reputations of 31 courtesans, including Yachiyo, Koto, Kaoru, Mikasa, Meishu, Kintayu, Katsuyama, Kotayu, Fujieda, Kinzan, Hatsune, Ukifune, and Samon, as well as Tenjin (second in rank to the courtesans), Ikuta.

遊女評判記。著者未詳。1655年(明暦1)刊。1冊。京都島原の評判記。序文のあとに〈難波物語，付，批判〉とあって，本文を掲げた後にその批判を加えるという体裁をとる。〈ある人，四条河原の傾城狂言を見て〉遊廓に行こうという気持になるのが発端で，遊びの得失について述べている。さらに，太夫の八千代，小藤，薫，三笠，明珠（めいしゆ），金太夫，勝山，小太夫，藤枝，金山（きんざん），初音，浮舟，左門について，および天神(太夫に次ぐ位)は生田以下計31人の評判を記している。
