Bishop of Nicomedia around ?-341 (?-339). A central figure in the Arian sect in the first half of the 4th century. He defended the exiled Arius, but signed the resolutions of the Council of Nicaea. Later, using his connections with Emperor Constantine I, he plotted to expel the Nicene sect members Athanasius and Eustathius. He baptized Constantine I (337) and also influenced Constantius II.
